The Broncos wrapped up a disappointing preseason with 2 heavy defeats.
Coach Birney addressed the various media outlets following the game against the Eagles with the following comments.
"Whilst it's always hard to lose at any time, we went out there in our first game against the Bills trying some new ideas - some were good, some were bad and Kyle Orton was downright awful. We moved on from that and against a team that many consider a legitimate contender for the Stella Bowl, we held our own. The whole offense improved - Kyle threw more consistently and we controlled the clock well. However, obviously the concern must be turning the time of possession into points. We were awful with our red zone conversions. This is where our focus needs to be this week. Our D have stepped up in both games and shown a lot of heart, and guts in their performance.
Poll a long line of NFL personnel executives about the Broncos' defense of '08 — 448 points allowed, 27th in run defense, 26th in pass defense and 29th overall — and the same notion always pops up.
Little. Small. Light at the point of attack.
We've worked a lot to remedy that and I think looking at our stats and the guys in camp, we're heading in the right direction. Hopefully, after these 2 games, the off-season ringrust has been worked off and we can go out Friday Night and put some more hurt on the Raider nation.
After all, what does preseason mean.. look at the Patriots.. they lost both their games and are sitting pretty as the favourites to win the whole shooting match!
