PRESS RELEASE - April 6, 2009
After much press speculation the Chicago Bears are pleased to formerly announce, with immediate effect, the appointment of a new General Manager/Head Coach.
In common with a growing trend in the DFL the Chicago Bears have looked beyond the US to the growing pool of young talent that is developing in the UK. The Bears owners believe that new blood, thinking and enthusiasm will inject a much needed boost to the Bears and are fully commented to supporting the GM for the long term.
On his arrival this morning Coach commented that:
"It is only 5 years since I was last in Chicago visiting this very stadium, and if you asked me then if would I be standing here today as GM/Coach I would have said that you were barking (translation - "mad").
I wish to thank the owners, and indeed the DFL Commissioner, for this great opportunity and I am very much looking forward to re-establishing the Bears as one of the leading DFL teams."
When asked on how he was planning to turn the Bears fortunes around, Coach said that:
"I have inherited a team which at its core has lots of potential, this has been strengthened with some key signings during the off-season. However now the real work starts. In the coming weeks I will be spending a great deal of time getting to know the players and staff with a view to determining how to get the best out of them for the coming season. Longer term we must continued to develop, seek out the best players, and mould the team into a complete and "unstoppable" package. This will not happened overnight or through quick wins but we will get there with a Bears team that will have the strength and depth to last at the top for many years."
